Dr Zsuzsanna Tungli is a specialist in the areas of 1) Leadership, focusing on developing leadership skills, 2) Cross-cultural management, with an emphasis on developing and increasing cross-cultural competency by leadership
development, multinational team-building, integration of national and organisational cultures in international transactions, cross-cultural competency assessment, cross-cultural training; and 3) Global mobility, including international careers, expatriate policies and practices and knowledge management of expatriates.

Zsuzsanna’s professional experience includes teaching, training, coaching and management consulting, designing and conducting company-specific management development programmes, and international research projects. Her clients include multinationals such as Novartis, Novo Nordisk, Siemens, Daimler Financial Services, Adecco, UPM and RWE. Currently she does team-building and leadership coaching at IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland; teaches International Management at the University of St Gallen, Switzerland; Global Leadership MBA and Intercultural Communication at the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary; and provides Team and Individual Mobility training through Aperian Global. She has been an invited lecturer on expatriation at London Business School, UK; and has presented her work at international conferences in Europe, Japan and the United States.

Her research and consulting projects cover various management issues in Asia, Europe and the United States; knowledge management inc. sharing best practices, the future requirements for executives and business organisations in Central and Eastern Europe and the future leadership role of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Earlier in her career she was one of the first local employees hired by Arthur Andersen & Co. when the company expanded into Hungary in 1989. As a management consultant she worked closely with locals as well as expatriates, performing purchase investigations, financial evaluations, market research and was involved in setting up joint venture companies between Hungarian and international partners. Prior to this, Zsuzsanna worked as a journalist writing for two national trade journals, Tourism and Marketing.

Zsuzsanna completed her PhD in the field of cross-cultural and expatriate management at London Business School, UK in 2001. In addition, she has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from SDA Bocconi University, Milan, Italy (1992), and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Economics from the Budapest University of Economic Sciences, Hungary (1988).

She has served as the Secretary of Sietar (Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research) Europa and as a Governing Council Member of Sietar International. In these roles she facilitated international board meetings and participated in various e-group projects. She was the Project Manager for the 2004 Conference of EWMD (European Women Management Development Network). She is also a member of the Academy of Management and the Academy of International Business.


In 2009 Zsuzsanna, together with Maury Peiperl published the article: Expatriate practices in German, Japanese, U.K., and U.S. multinational companies: A comparative survey of changes. Human Resource Management, 48, 153-171.

A Hungarian national, Zsuzsanna speaks fluent English and German and has a good level of Italian and Russian. She has travelled extensively, and lived and worked in a number of countries, including Germany, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States. She moved to Budapest at the end of 2007, after having lived abroad for 16 years.

She is married to a British man; they have a ten-year old daughter and a seven-year-old son.
